The concept of Social Psychiatry has always faced innumerable challenges. Personalized Medicine follows the theory, everyone is unique and believes that by analyzing information about genomes, certain patterns can be identified which will help to identify risks, detect illness earlier and determine the best possible interventions. They profess to target therapies towards the best outcome in disease management.[1] We welcome advances in all branches of Medicine, including Personalized Medicine but strongly assert, it cannot provide all the answers in the care of persons with mental illness or in helping their families. We know, a man is also a product of his environment. This realization has made the 'Bio-Psycho-Social' model advocated by Social Psychiatry, to make a triumphant comeback.
We are delighted to invite you to the 23rd Congress of the World Association of Social Psychiatry at Bucharest October 25–28, 2019. As you know, this is a special occasion for all of us including our member societies, social psychiatrists, and mental health professionals all over the world to meet and engage in scientific deliberations.
The theme of the Congress, “social determinants of mental health and access to care,” is contemporary and relevant. Our world is changing as never before, which has profound implications for mental health. We are sure, the deliberations of the Congress will give us newer insights into the emerging dynamics in all these areas.
The Bucharest meeting reunites more than 415 abstracts from almost 50 countries included in symposia, workshops, master classes, free paper, and e-poster sessions. Many well-known professional and high-quality speakers will attend.
The event will be accredited by the UEMS with European CME credits.
We have very high expectations! Romania is the country of birth of WASP founder Joshua Bierer[2] and this is one important reason why we have chosen Bucharest as the venue among the various applicants for the congress.
